Because there are occasionally times when I want to be able to save a log, I'd like to know if there's a way to "permanently" turn it off by default but yet allow it to be turned on (from within the game) if I need it. Is this doable?

Right, but I'd have to remember to do that every time I logged on. Sometimes I'm in a hurry and I forget and I wind up with hundreds of pages of garbage I don't need..
