It's actually amusing to watch melee go in and get owned in 1/2 rounds when they get too close to Vish . . . kinda like I did last Tacvi raid after I forgot a mob AE ramped and I was running to get behind him. Owned in 1 second.

I let them die usually. Rez is a far more efficient heal for those that try to survive AE ramp. If they are smart, realize their mistake and back out I'll toss SS on them so they have a moment to consider.

First I have heard about Race effecting it (and not so sure I believe it does).
Different mobs have differnt hitbox sizes, RZ in time is a good example of a mob that if you stay at MAX MELEE range, you can avoid his AE Rampage. Some mobs have AE rampages range greater then their hitbox size so melee either need to range fight, eat the AE rampage (Fennin Ro in Fire), or if it happens every 45 seconds or so run in, melee, run out.
I doubt I need to say it but MAX MELEE range is the range where you can just hit the mob, if you back up any you are out of range, and in MOST cases Melee should be at max range (some fights you need to hug a mob but most cases).

I don't know if that is true about rampage (it might be I'm not sure).
But Point Blank AE's are not centered on the target, targeted AE's are.
For example, here's two random spells I found that had those target types..
PB AE means the radius is from the center of the mob.

Targeted AE means that the radius is from the person that the ability is used on, which 9 times out of 10 is the MT.
This is why I used to harp on about aggro on some encounters. It doesn't matter if "I only took aggro for a second" because if you caused the mob to AE you instead of the MT, in some cases you just got *ALL* the DPS ae'd, as a lot of targeted AE's have small range.
