DA Hammer and raid requirements

To get the ball rolling here, I want to ask a simple question. What are your feelings/arguments against having a raid leader require that you camp for the DA hammer?

I know it can prove to be very valuable in certain raid situations. I'm just wondering if the general feelings are if it is a worthwhile requirement, or if it is not justifiable to require one class to camp for one weapon...

As a requirement to apply and be accepted into the guild? No.

As something that all Paladins WILL have? Yes.

If they don't have it when they apply and get accepted into the guild, that's okay. But it is something we expect them to get once they are in. If we had a Paladin that just refused to get it and use it for whatever reason...I'm not sure what we would do. We've never run into that before. But it wouldn't be looked on favorably.

Fortunately, you generally don't have to do a lot of convincing. Most Paladins see the benefit. It's a major tool for the class. You are expected to have it...or get it.

I have to agree that it shouldn't be a requirement to have one, but that being said, it should be a requirement commit to getting one. Every paladin in our guild has it, but we never denied a PM for lack of one. It makes a ton of different on a good portion of raid content, and we always always have paladins for ramp on Jelvan. I think this just falls in line with basic raid gear that is relevent to your raids and your class. If you don't raid content where ramp is a big issues, sure this wont be required, but for most end game guilds this is a necessity, just like a means of shrinking, invising, class specific spells etc.

As an aside, anyone know why this item doesn't have an aug slot....?

There are a few Luclin items that, for whatever reason, never got aug slots.

The neck from AHR in VT is another example.

It should'nt even been be a question of should I get it or not, every pally that raids should be responsible enough to care about the raid they are in to get that weapon, thats bascially what it boils down to anyhow imo, if you are not stepping up to the table and bringing everything you can to the raid then you have sit back and reevaluate your reasons for being in the guild and raiding in general.

The only event my guild really uses DA ramp for is jelvan, and that is just to make it a bit easier. I suppose we just don't utilize it enough or something, but it hasn't ever been an issue. We have used it on council of the nine, various other anguish bosses, and a few Tacvi encounters, but like I said, ramp tanking was never a big issue for us. Given that i'd have never made it a "requirement" for my guild. There, however, are plane of time raiding guilds on my server that DO require it. It really depends mostly on if your guild utilizes it or not I suppose.

NOTE: Don't flame me for not "utilizing it" or whatever . I was never a raid leader and only lead minor events like don dragons, etc. So it wasn't my call.

ANOTHER TOTALLY RELEVANT NOTE: If you're going to use DA ramp, 90% of it is good communication with whomever is healing you. It wasn't an issue for me since I always boxed my own cleric, but you will die pretty fast if you assume they know when to heal you, when you are DAed, etc.

Using the DA Hammer in conjunction with boxing your own healer is the ideal combination. Especially if you are using two computers. The benefits are evident and come in very handy for mobs like Daosheen. You can time your heal for exactly when DA drops. It's pretty sweet!

My previous Guild used DA Ramp Tanking all the way through Time, though my new Guild has never used it and I think I am the only Paladin with it.
