Slay Rate Question

Postby Harlan » Tue Aug 03, 2010 1:32 pm

Folks,

Does the fraction of slay hits change with the speed of the weapon or does it remain pretty uniform? I recall way-back-when that parses showed that weapons proc'd more the slower they were - to the point that folks AE-riposting would get slowed before starting. I'm wondering if We fire off slay hits more often if we don't have haste, etc.

Thx,

Harlan

Well, slays aren't procs in that sense, so that old theory (if true) wouldn't really apply. Slay is a melee hit muliplier.

At Slay Undead 9, you have a ~5.25% chance for each single melee hit to be converted into a slay. So the more swings you swing, and the faster you swing, the higher the Slay frequency is (frequency = number of slays in a given time frame).

Max Haste, max triple attack, max Flurry, max double riposte....you want all that good stuff

Lower delay = more chances to slay
however
Higher damage = higher damage on slays

Don't just go for fast though you want an overall decent ratio. The boomerang 2her is really nice as well as any and all UF 2hers since all the UF 2hers got a revamp on ratio compared to previous expansions.

@ 5.25% fixed (maxed) slay rate you can either choose 5.25% of 100 or 1000 swings basically when it comes to ratio so the faster weapon of equal ratio will win out. It doesn't increase the proc rate (bad choice of words) but it increases your chance based on how many swings you take.

is what I do when I'm not raiding

Thanks for the input. I am, in fact, riposte swarming and don't really have a choice of weapons at the moment so the only thing to take into consideration was to click the haste potion or not before pulling 30 MOBs.

Way back when the shamans were able to demonstrate that proc rate (percentage of swings with a proc) went down as you added haste effects to a melee class. This was for the same weapon setup just at different speeds. Apparently that's different than slay hits then (a fixed % of swings).

Obviously when riposting you want the max dmg weapon in the same ballpark ratio as another weap.

Personally I would think that when you are swarming you want the highest damage weapon you can find. Delay would have little to do with anything except the 1 mob you are hitting.

When swarming you get that extra attack off a Riposte, as far as I know the delay of the weapon has no bearing on your chance to Riposte a mob that is attacking you. So when you get that Riposte shot in, you would want it coming from the highest damage weapon you have.

Slay is not a "normal" proc and I do not think it falls into the same category of having a max procs per minute.

Normal procs don't have a max per minute. They have a chance to happen, adjusted by swing rate, to get an expected proc rate per minute. You could totally be superluckyguy and get 3000 procs in a minute, if you hit every 2% chance or whatever, it's just unlikely. Just the same, you can be superUNluckyguy and get a big fat nothin'. This variance is why sometimes non-tanking warriors pull agro from the tanking ones. If they're on flip sides of those lucky streaks, especially as regards their innate agro proc Infused by Rage AA, it can be pretty hard to overcome.

OK, at anyrate it does not have any effect on the number of slays you get from Riposte's while swarm killing. Weapon speed has little effect except on the 1 mob you are targeting. the other 20+ are taking damage solely from the Riposte's.

the thing to remember about slays is there a nice bonus to your DPS but when looking at what 2hander to use i firmly believe you should choose the one with the best ratio because remember those fights when you havent hit a single slay? the fact remains that a flat chance to slay of about 5% is just not very fantastic it certainly shouldnt be the deciding factor in what weapon you choose to use honestly lay your hands on the best ratio weapon you can camp and see for yourself.

When you swarming, use the weapon with largest damage.

you guys are arguing about this like it is 1999

In 2010 the highest damage weapon is mostly likely the best ratio also.

Oh and... you should be swarming with 1hers not 2hers. The added benefits of shield block >>>>> 2her ratio because the extra defense allows you to add more mobs into the swarm. Paladin swarming =/= SK swarming.
