Devs say Splash 'Curing' charm may not get fixed

Postby eaiana » Wed Jul 14, 2010 12:51 pm

Post from Ngreth this morning:

Even lowered in power, Splash of Sanctification is a very powerful effect. I currently like the idea that it has some drawbacks. That does not mean that this view will not change in the future.

Additionally, there is probably no middle ground. If we make it not work against charm, it will probably also stop working against other counter-less spells that players may really want dispelled by splash as well.

If this stays as it is today, I guess there will be 'no splash' events because charm is involved, just like there are 'no cure' events now. The alliance I raid with is in Korafax and Tower, and we already have Mindshear Avatar as a 'no Splash' event because of the charming the adds mechanic.

Wow, they LIKE that a cure spell has a possibility of wiping a raid? I wonder if they would say stupid things like that for other cool effects. Like if 12th hour cleric spell had a 5% chance of killing the cleric casting it, or if gallenty and haste didn't stack, or something else equally stupid.

They already have an INCURABLE freaking spell flag. They have demonstrated that several times. Add that to the player charm spell so it can't be cured (although that might not work because then it couldn't be dispelled, which might cause some balance issues I guess, or something). OR, add an exception to our spell that it won't effect that entire spell line, or just player-cast charms, which I do think they have the ability to set. If mercs aren't flagged as normal NPC's, maybe make it so it can't effect NPC's at all?

There are options here besides another splash nerf.

Normy, have you not done any of the raids since TSS that had effects it was detrimental to cure? That mechanic has been around for literal years.

they are offering up a chance for other priest classes to get a foot in the door of the splash mechanic. For instance clerics are getting a splash with no cure component, clerics will then be able to heal the raid without the cure. This is my interpretation of what is going on, I could be wrong but that is what I am gathering with the upgrades to splash etc.

is what I do when I'm not raiding

before nerf Splash was curing players charms?

Why Devs insist and make useful spells in worthless everytime?, now for the most of events than include some kind of chanter work, we can´t use Splash

Maybe they think is funny become in useless our best spells for raids? or like i saw in chat the other day, Devs hate raid players? . If yes is the answer to the second question, maybe they need to remember than the most of players than like raid are the most loyal players to EQ and are the players than more content see, i hope they change his mind or maybe Sony read it and change the Devs.

Sorry if i make mistakes writing but english is not my first language.

As someone who groups with an enchanter on a regular basis, this saddens me.

Enchanters can block Splash for their pets. it's really just an issue for bard charms I think

Not being block-able is more than likely something to do with it being Free Target. (similar to how target limits don't work)

I have a question about the mechanics of it. IIRC splash didn't remove charm from enchanter pets before the nerf. So when splash changed to counters how was it that it began curing charm?

Original Splash used the "Purify" spell effect (same as our AA Purification), which cures almost everything, including bad Auras and even DoTs flagged as "Not Dispellable". But, said "purify" spell effect is hard-coded to have no effect on Fear, Charm, or Ressurection Sickness (not to be confused with Revival Sickness, which is what you get after dying and returning to bind prior to a rezz - Splash did used to cure that).

New Splash uses "Removed Detrimental", that works on ALL counter-less effects that are not flagged as "Not Dispellable". So technically, they could flag Charms as "Not Dispellable", but who knows what that'll bork up, most notably in PVP - chanters/bards could run around with uber pets, without fear of PVP'ers dispelling the charm.

No. Means they can take any AE detrimental DoT and make it "Not Dispellable" and Splash won't do shit against it (Mindblight snare for example).

Or, can take any AE DoT and crank up the disease/poision/curse/corruption counters so it takes 20 Splashes just to cure.

Basically they can either completely nullify -or- greatly increase paladin raid desireability, depending on which path they take.

For 6 months we were the cool kids on the block, if there was an AE then Paladins were required in the raid, a paladin chain on twincast splash not only kept the AE at bay it also made the work of the Cleric Rota the Druids and Shaman keeping groups alive so so much easier.

Now we are back to the bastard child that keeps turning up. I am not saying we are useless but that nice little niche we had has gone and with Clerics getting Splash with HoT so much for utility.

Peeved, yes. Miffed, yes. Want to smack a Dev hard about the head with a kipper, you bet. Gonna cancel my account, no chance.

lol well damn, maybe i did quit too early :P TBH i really never liked the Cure component on Splash bc all it created was drama. It put 100% of the curing responsibility on 1 class instead of balancing out the healing and curing responsibilities among all the beneficial classes.

yeah but you talking about maybe 20-30 paladins now having more purpose out of the entire community...not really a resolution to the issues
