You're a shaman I'm assuming. Try joining a group and refusing to buff anyone at all and see how they react. Let me know afterward if you still think buffs aren't important.
There was a druid I grouped with once who played like a wizard - no heals, no buffs, just offensive dps only. Like I said, I grouped with her only once.
