Auto attack vs. Riposte

I'm wondering what you guys think about this. Say you're in a dungeon and can't mount up, and you're fighting hard hitting mobs. Is turning on auto attack worth it considering riposte? I'm assuming you're not using Panther line.

I think I do about 2k damage per riposte (not maxed skill). It's not very scientific, but when soloing a named, that riposte could mean death.

I may be going about this the wrong way. Anyways, opinions/data would be appreciated.

I've never found Shaman non-Panther melee damage to be worth doing on non-trivial mobs, but I haven't played much in the last expansion.

Only melee long enough to proc your Sap Encrusted Branch, then put up the melee.

not really worth it normally, but if you have something like second spire going, itll make it worth it, since youll be proccing a 2.2k heal every 3-4 seconds or so.
