We need a casual/guildless shaman equipment guide!

We should do like warriors and make a list of all one-groupable or solo/duo upgrades.

First i would see VP quests, then epic1, maybe some drops from RCoD or WoS/MPG single groupable nameds...

The problem with that is this...

When one says 'Ikkinz raid mob', you know if your guild can do it or not.

When one says 'one groupable', there's a huge variety in what different groups can handle. Do you mean one group of well-balanced, experienced players with hundreds of AAs, who group together regularly, or do you mean one group of pickup players with less than fifty AAs each, in bazaar gear, who have never met before?

Tordail's lists of Augments, OoW Drops, and (for the most part) GoD Drops are single-groupable.

i am lvl 70 since oow came out, i have played my sham for 3 years and i have 500+AAs, i have never been guilded, not even a day, i have build my shaman alone with soloed drops, bazar gear or quested gear.

Recentring on the initial subject : I found this entire forum only dedicated to raiding shaman, that's a fact.
SO i humbly propose to centralize on a unique thread all infos to get stuff atainable solo or with a little group of friend, just for those like me who can't be afford the time to be on a raiding guild

don't marginalise the casual gamer please


I linked juste for exemple the 2 threads on the SW boards because i find them very usefull... for a warrior of course
I spent plenty of time myself working on allakhazam/lucy/crucible etc and others class boards to gather infos to stuff my shaman(i achieved a 5khp, 6kmana, ft15, all important lvl 65 focus and some 70) but i am not aware of ALL the good equipment opportunities because the game has become so HUGE, there are lots of other casual shaman like me that know good infos as well that we could share.

That's why i proposed to help each other in puting on a thread the best shamans items for each slots that can be quested, camped, bought in bazar or ldon/Don or even tradeskilled even if we are not in a big raiding guild.

Exemple: if you manage to get into an open raid to get the blood from the skyfire mountains dragon you can solo the entire old VP quest key. Once keyed for VP u can solo the faction work and then do the 6 quests solo/duo. I managed myself to make the 6 quests alone or with friends(for the Vindi part), they give awsome rewards for a lonely shaman but crappy stuff for even a little Timed Guild.

That's the kind of infos i would enjoy to find in such an advice thread.

Hi all, first let me say I am not the most gramatical person so please forgive this posting.

Poor old and I do mean old, created in aug of 2001 and only played 180 days, has mostly Velious gear and I have not done too poorly. I can solo a few mod in some areas and even som pop zones but since GoD those mobs just plain hit harder and have more hot points. I had Oimmuk parked over on Povar for quite some time while I played with my Wife and her brother on Fennin Ro I never could afford the price to get him over to that server and couldnt remember where all the mobs were for my epic and sure didn't want to go thru that again...lol. I have visited my fair share of sites over the years and my fair share of zones too and some of those have been upgraded, Droga is not a place for 30 anymore and 60 will be taxed there...lol. I too have found information here and other sites for the up and coming Shaman to be lacking, not everyone can afford the Plat to twink out, and there are quite a few new to EQ who look to the older player for a helping hand<read that as not a hand out>, advice mentoring.
I too am somewhat shocked by how some of the posters here have responded to Bed, and feel that if you want to serve you own kind then you should at least refrain from mean spirited post. The Shaman of today are greatly different from yesterday and are not powerful like they used to be, our healing is less than par and our DPS is just pitiful, but I have noticed an increase in Shamans lately and for some strange reason most are close around 25 or just a little bit better, wonder if this has something to do with the change in tradeskills, namely alchemy <yes most are just SoW potion factories and other potions>. I don't like to make long post as I am not very good at writing, so this is probably difficult to read, however I would like to see more people help out those who actually want to make a good shaman and not just a potion factory, or Aug factory. Well, my ramblin seems to have reached an end, so I am sure that there are some who will respond in a nice manor to this, and just as equally those who will not. Any way it goes this is just my 2 cents worth.

One thing I have never, and will never do is label someone. Samanna you and the community have done a great job, and all you have colected over this span of time has been magnificent. Please do not get me wrong, I for one do appreciate all the hard work. This having been said, even some in prior post have hinted that is is easy to get a shaman to level 60 and that they are powerful, I wonder if they would be able to without Guild help or just soloable or single group, and by this I mean a group that is not just for the hunting of gear for the Shaman in question. I play Oimmuk some but not as much as my lower toons, I like the challenge of building a toon up from the ground and even starting out in patchwork leather, and working on cultural gear. I do not like to Bazaar buy gear unless the toon has earned the plat itself. I know I am probably in the minority here, but Samanna, you are a high level Shaman and so are the others. In my guild people link what their latest and greatest trophy is and I am proud for them, I am also a little jelous, and desire those nice items too. I just dont find groups and I have a hard time playing due to depression, kind of closes in around you and you get no pleasure from things, so I dont often get to play in my Guilds High End groups mucch. I am proud for their accomplisments, as I am proud of yours and the other fine people here. I guess I am still just rambling on again so I better end here, I will with one final comment. All that has been said, ahere and other places is true and good, but still I would like to see some help for the aspiring Shaman of today and not some Bazaar Bought Uber Twink like this.... Well, I shall go dormant again since I always seem to step on toes<big Ogre Feet>. Before people get too carried away with the whole idea that this place is run by a bunch of uberguild shamans that have no perspective on the small game anymore, I'd also like to note that I am also a Site Admin here. I am in a guild, but there's only 7 or so active members. We do go on random pickup raids for elemental flag mobs, but the items off of them are not upgrades for us.

Myself and my guildmates have found this site to be more useful than any of the other class sites out there, for finding general information and leads on things that are one-groupable for us. We left the game for 14 months, just after GOD launch and came back in mid-July. Let me explain how I went about constructing my gear plans.

First, I came back to the crucible and posted this thread:

using the lucy list on the focus effect, I found information on several quests that netted gear that had those effects in OOW. They were generally stat loss items for me though, so I passed on them in favor of augs from DON.

I'd recommend using allakhazam's quests by zone feature for WOS, NC, and RCOD for more quests of this type.


While looking at the mobs that dropped quest pieces that I mentioned above, I noticed a few of the mobs would have small upgrades for others in my regular group, so I investigated loot drops in:

I saw most of those were not generally upgrades, but I noticed that some of the raid nameds there dropped 2 level 69 spells on every kill.

Then I looked up spell droppers, pretty easy, click the links and scroll down for a list of droppers.

This lead me to writing out a list of camps that had a potential for loot upgrades for the group, spell drops and good exp for levelling to 70. We started in RCOD (WOS is very camped), then moved to MPG, then MPG trials and RSS, doing DON for a change of pace.

Finally, I constructed my gear plans using this knowledge, plus the allakhazam search tool. Choose your race, class, slot type and check the box that says exclude raid items.

I'd recommend making a list for each slot and then making a list of each focus effect you want and then combining the 2 lists into a master list.

That is the system that I followed, but the details will be different for you. I have a pretty stable group, with characters with a lot of AA and solid gear. We can do a lot of old raid targets with one group, we did my epic with essentially one group, we did NC raid nameds with one group for 69 spell drops.

Does your group have these features? Is your "group" a group a pickups? Is it a group with a level 60 tank? Do you use bots in your group? How good is your group, have you played together long as a team? Is it a group of level 70s with 500+ aa? Do you have elemental access? Qvic access? Anguish? Vex Thal? VP? etc? My group has KT access (and a few people with air/water/earth access recently) and that's it. Is your group willing to farm bane weapons and key to do things like single group Seru? How good is your tank, do they have 1600ac? 2500? Does your cleric have a 5k mana pool or a 12k one? Do you even have a cleric? Do you have a mezzer? Puller? All these things will greatly influence what you can do with your one group. One person's group can kill Chailik in RSS and another person's one group will have trouble with nameds in WOS, or with a Creator mission. How much money do you have? I can buy a lot of gear, cause I have a ton of plat, do you?

I can't give you information on soloing, because I don't solo...if I am soloing, it is with me and my 2box druid. I can't give you information on things to do with pickup groups because I don't do those. If you do those things and there are no guides here, start with posting some guides of your own experiences. People tend to be inspired by the efforts of others and will contribute more things if you lead the way.

You'll find a ton of information on things to do here with a single group. In fact, you'll find far more single group spoilers than you will raid spoilers, in my opinion. Part of the fun of a game like everquest is the depth, there are a ton of ways to get gear. There may have been a time where gear in EQ really didn't matter as long as you were skilled. That time has come and gone. Any good player of EQ will do what they can do maximize their gear based on their situation and you'll need to put in a little effort to making those plans. Gear selection is part of the game.

Shaman gear choices are more complex than a number of classes, since we need to balance HP, AC, Mana, focus effects, and preferably things like avoidance, shielding, etc on our gear. If you have questions about one piece of gear versus another piece, you should always feel free to post those questions here.

As to the level issues, I will grant you that it is a difficult problem. Information on how to equip yourself in the lower levels quickly gets outdated as the game and the players moves on.

Forgive me for the length of this post, but I get irritated by people who seem so helpless, be it the soloing shaman who says no one posts any guides for him or the large guild shaman who says he can't get his level 70 spells... boo hoo.
