Focii decay

Postby Yesak » Sat May 16, 2009 7:05 pm

In an argument with a guildmate about this.

His claim is that focii decay based upon the level YOU are.

My claim is that the focii is based on the SPELL LEVEL you cast.

Like if you have a level 80 focus of 50% and a lvl 85 focus of 45%, lvl 85 spells will trigger the 45% lvl 85 focus whereas anything under 80 (and possibly 81 or 82) level spells will use the 50% lvl 80 focus.

Would be nice to know how it works. I think I'm right as it explains why different focii trigger for different spells (or at least it seems that way) 8)

Ok, now that that is cleared up, what is the % break down? I have heard it is 5% per level, so for an 85 spell with an 80 focus, you multiply the 80 focus by .75. If this is correct, let me know, trying to understand this once and for all.

its 5% of the focus for each level the spell is over the focus. Take a level 65 focus that is 20% a level 66 spell will lose 5% of the focus or 1% value making the focus 19% and each level higher the spell get lose 1% more up to level 85 when it becomes 0. if the focus is 80% then each level loses 4% focus. Hope this helps clear it up.

Ok, I am not sure if this is how focii works or not. To the origonal poster yes, it is spell based lvl not player lvl.

I have a lvl 65 druid that is using Moonlight Cape that give this benifit Fizzletinder's Benevolent Extension I, which does this:
1: Increase Spell Duration by 15%
2: Limit: Max Level(80) (lose 5% per level over cap)
3: Limit: Spell Type(Beneficial only)
4: Limit: Effect(Complete Heal (with duration) excluded)
5: Limit: Effect(Invunerability excluded)
6: Limit: Min Duration(24.00 sec)
7: Limit: Effect(Reaction Radius excluded)
8: Limit: Combat Skills Not Allowed

So this focus will work for me until I hit lvl 80 with no penalty. Now once I hit lvl 81 I will have a "Decay" on this focii for spells that I cast that are lvl 81, wont effect any of the spells that I cast from lvl 80 to lvl 1, and it states a 5% lose per level. I have always understood this to work like this:

15 * 5% = .75%
.75% - 15% = 14.25% for my lvl 81 spells

If I have the Frostcrypt raid #2 neck that grants 35% focii at lvl 75 my shaman that is now lvl 80 and really does not cast many lvl 75 or lower spells would get a "Decay" focii for almost every spell like this:

35 * .5% = 1.75%
1.75% - 35% = 33.25% for my lvl 76 spells
1.75% * 2 =3.5% -35% = 31.5% for my lvl 77 spells
1.75% * 3 = 5.25% - 35% = 29.75 for my lvl 78 spells
1.75% * 4 = 7% - 35% = 28% for my lvl 79 spells
1.75 * 5 = 8.75% -35% = 26.25% on all my lvl 80 lvl spells
1.75% * 6 = 10.5% - 35% = 24.5% for my lvl 81 spells
1.75% * 7 = 12.25% - 35% = 22.75% for my lvl 82 spells
1.75% * 8 = 14% - 35% = 21% for my lvl 83 spells
1.75% * 9 = 15.75% - 35% = 19.25% for my lvl 84 spells
1.75% * 10 = 17.5% - 35% = 17.5% for my lvl 85 spells

This is how it has always been explained to me, but that sure does not mean it is right.

Correct.
As already mentioned elsewhere http://raidloot.com has nice tables so you do not have to do the math.
http://raidloot.com/Focus.aspx

For instance for your Carved Blood Ice Choker - http://raidloot.com/Focus.aspx?cat=Incr ... trimental#
Then click on: Show Focus Scaling Table
