The Spirit Realm

With rumors abound on the "new" rabid bear, I realized I had seen a lot of smoke and very little fire on the issue of our "old" rabid bear. Seeing that, I started some parses on Test Seventy on the Beta server, using only AAs and spells available on the Live servers.

Hypothesis: Does Rabid Bear + Spirit of Might out DPS Champion.

Conditions:

1) Base stat Level 70 mob, from the back, mob does not turn to attack back.
2) Buffs never fade (conditions of the zone I am in, the Arena.)
3) Attack is on non-stop.
4) All equipment was the same while parsing were going.
5) Mob was not debuffed at all, as debuffs DO wear off.

Weapon of choice "Staff of Eternal Flames" from Plane of Fire


Augments:
Silver-Flecked Crystal of Agony


Buffs: (without rabid bear)
Speed of Salik
Wunshi's Focusing
Champion
Spirit of Panther (considering a significant portion of our melee DPS comes from this spell, it seemed reasonable to parse with it.)
Spirit of Might (as a control, as the spell does not do anything while Champion is on)

Results with Rabid Bear: (duration, just under 4 hours)
Overall DPS: 169.88
Max Hit: 220 (accounted for because of lack of Champion)
Max Crit (proc): 828

Flames of Ro: (400 Fire)
Panther Maw: (400 Chromatic)
Tainted Bite: (35 when cast, 25 per tick Disease)



Conclusion: No net change in proc rate (as assumed), increase in melee DPS 29.24 (the other differences are accounted in the near useless Rabid Bear proc, which averaged just under 4 DPS w/ dot and DD component.) Going to try parsing without wearing worn haste to see if the Rabid Bear haste is worthless if at the haste cap (I would assume it is, as it is not flagged as overhaste.)

Before panther I used to do 70ish DPS with my sharkspine.

Your attack seems offly low. Then again you dont have the ranger buffs nor the Beastlords ferocity buff (I do get this every time I want to muss around and get my attack as high as possable). with all that you would have over 2k to 2.1k Attack.

And to your last phrase it would seem that they forgot to cut and passed the new rabid bear from the old one becouse it looks like the double attack did not carry over. only reason RB had it was becouse it was a cut and paste spell from the older VoTB line of spells (with the mana drain/regen) that everyone swore they where DA with them on. Looks like the coder did not know what he was doing with it to couse that

Also SCRM and coldain saw effect RB. This would make RB just about 8minetes long with a 84min refreash (full hasinging). always thought the rabid bite was a weak proc to have on it though.

Now hear is a thing interestring thing, IF we had a ferocity 5 aug up while RBing, would that also incress the number of doubles we would do? since your SPM was 53.4 for normal and 83.3 for RB that would look like we have about a 56 percent chance to double attack. that would mean the extra 16 percent woudl give a ~72 double attack. that would mean just about 91.9 spm. Now with any accurisy mods we would up our DPS just by landing more hits But woudl take a butt load of accurisy to up by any meaning full amount unless you have any hit rates from your prases (my guess is between 40 and 45 percent hit rate). And acording to this site max accu would be 150 and would only add 10percent to hit rate (so to 50 - 55). still 10 more hits (for me right now thats 220max hit 105 norm with fire staff and dont know about Bone have not tryed it yet) would be anywhere between 1k to 2.2k extra a minete (so a ~16.7 norm dps incress 36.7dps max incress)

Just a side note (if 99 haste does not effect higher dly weps more then ones already close to the 10 dly cap) the number of swings you would get per minete for the more populare weps are: (name, hasted DLY, SPMapprox)

Also for me I have found the best way to find your approx max hit is (with 200+ wep skill):
(DAM x 4) + number
Now that number has been 10 for my staff of flames and 4 or 5 (forget) for my piledriver. However some weps might have a difrent number (the very slow dly ones like the great hammer for the SS was atlest a plues 14 if the 310 was max hit).

To bad they will not let us keep to difreant tribute setups, one for just standered affl effe V and haste V (for me anyway) and one for maxed trib double attack, accurcy, Vengence. would be nice to have 2 or 3 diffrent setups would could call on and seeing as how RB lasts under the 10min repay time would just need to pay cost once for entire duration.

Right, according to the raw stats from spdat (that I've been eyeing up for ages), Rabid Bear is as follows:

200 ATK, 100 STR / DEX, 50 CR (plus haste, illusion, proc, double attack)

GRB
Rank1: 233 ATK, 100 STR / DEX (overcap), 60 CR (plus haste etc)
Rank2: 266 ATK, 125 STR / DEX (overcap), 70 CR (etc)
Rank3: 300 ATK, 150 STR / DEX (overcap), 80 CR (etc)
And that's where my comments about 1.5 came into being...

That's why I was ranting in another thread about how useless ATK is to shamans, as it's more accuracy or a different damage table that we need. Losing the Double Attack portion from RGB, if true, would be as welcome as a kick in the teeth - that was a fun "do something your class normally can't do" feature. There are a couple of bytes that have been changed later in the spell string compared to RB, but I don't know what they are for.

(Edit: and pre Champion, Might, our max hit with 200 skill in a weapon and 200 in offense is 4.18*DMG (give or take the odd one or two points). Going to 215 offense and weapons skill, or 215 offense and 225 weapons skill with mods doesn't make any difference to max hits).

Just finished reparsing GRB, it looks like it has been tweaked, but not really in our favor, doing a reparse of the TA w/o GRB to make sure that I have a good control to go by.

Swings per minute: 51 (suspiciously close to the accuracy numbers...)
Total Swings, Breakdown: 9254 hits, 8821 misses.
BiteDoT DPS: (GRB Proc): 6.69
BiteDD DPS: 1.70
Panther DPS: 65.84
Procs per minute (panther): 9.88

Total DPS: 105.77

Will post the TA test w/o GRB when I wake up. About an hour into it, and it looks like the DPS increase is due to the proc on GRB more than any other source.

Without Rabid Bear.

Total Parse: 127 minutes, 52 seconds
Buffs: Wunshi, Champion, Swift like the Wind, 41% worn haste. No spell crit AAs.
Melee DPS: 30.54
Max Hit: 128
Accuracy: 51.12%
Swings per minute: 51 (i.e. no double attack)
Total Swings, Breakdown: 3346 hits, 3200 misses.
BiteDoT DPS: (GRB Proc): 0 (N/A, GRB was not on)
BiteDD DPS: 0 (N/A, GRB was not on)
Panther DPS: 66.74 (within standard deviation of test, effectively equal to with GRB)
Procs per minute (panther): 10

Total DPS: 97.28

Conclusion: All increase in GRB DPS comes from the proc, effectively no increase in Melee DPS due to the fact that anyone with the 27 AAs to blow on GRB likely is over the extremely weak damage cap for shaman. Double Attack was nerfed from GRB, for reasons no one can explain. A huge injustice was done to shaman by this being added to our DoD AA list, especially in its broken form. The biggest surprise is that if you don't couple GRB with Might, GRB won't even outparse Champion, which lasts longer than GRB, and doesn't have a 2 hour recast.

That's just beautiful.

They should give us an AA called 'waste points here' with unlimited levels at 1 aa per level, that does nothing. At least that would be cheaper to get than rabid bear, hastened rabidity, greater rabid bear and the 'pet don't cast' one.
