With the recent AA exp grouping change there is a major difference between normal exp and AA exp when there is a wide separation in lvls of the group members. As far as solo exp, I am not sure. I heard there was a bug, back many years ago, when you had AA exp was turned on, it pretty much removed the penalty, or something like that.
