I think this is terrible policy, and I completely disagree with the administration on this one. Secret PRISONS?? Keep the locations secret if you must, but disclose that they EXIST -- this DOES sound very Russia Gulag-ish to me, and its scary.

Prisons like Gitmo may be necessary, but hiding this from the public gives the (correct) impression that its wrong.

On a more positive note the US senate has demanded more information about those prisons from the intelligence agency director - with 82:9 votes according to German news. Hopefully that is not a pure political move, but show s some concern about the ongoing erosion of implemented checks and balances and the hoarding of more and more power at federal administration level in the name of 'security'.

As i am lazy, maybe someone can dig the similar English language article please .
