Only a couple weeks into CoA we took down AMV on our second attempt. Revealing above. Guild leadership apparently believe we're not even remotely ready to attempt this guy and turned us around to go down some MPG trials to finish off the night. I have 2 questions.

First, I've heard a nasty rumor that OMM has not been defeated by anyone on the Tunare server. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Second, how hard is he really. Looking for the perspective of some of you who have killed him. What does it really take?

Frankly i must say, any guild leader who has a chance to try a mob like OMM and has already spent the time to get there and DOESNT at least try it, isnt doing their guild any favors and really should reconsider their commitment to seeing the guild grow and mature, and perhaps step asside to allow someone more dedicated to progress and tackling challenges to take the reins for a while.

I dont see anything wrong with saying "we're not going to spend days working on this" but when you are already there and have a chance to give it a whirl, by all means do so. To not do so is foolish.

My guild has been in Anguish for over a year now, and seriously trying to kill him on and off for about 3 months, but he's still not dead yet. The gear needed to kill him is outrageous, tanks need to have a BP honestly in the case of a mistake in mask clicking. This is the hardest event in the game so far for my guild, and from what I hear from guilds in demi-plane, he's harder than that too (don't know about end-game PoR yet, so, he may be easier than those).

His drops would be nice additions to most players, but, honestly, your guild leader was right to go do gearing up mobs/trials as opposed to wasting time on him after your first AMV kill (and only second AMV attempt).

Our tanks are around 15-16khp/3100-3200ac unbuffed and they get raped by him in short time. His adds suck, period. Theres a whole bunch to this script and it's friggin long. Once you have the script figured out, I'm sure it's a lot easier, but, it's still a long fight in any case (at least I'm pretty sure it is). Most guilds that have killed him don't farm him, because the risk/reward on him is just too bad and there is always a chance of a lag spike/late click/whatever and you then just wasted 54 (or so) x 1 hour = 54 man-hours on a mob. That's time much better spent elsewhere IMHO. That said, I still want to kill him, he's still up when we're done and that just makes me sad.

My guild ran up and poked OMM and gave it a half-assed attempt probably 3 times, but our leadership decided to screw it and focus on beating then farming Vish, then moving on to work on the harder last blood raids.

Even with a level increase, OMM will not be a farm target. His loot would be substandard for the levels while better can be got elsewhere.

Oh, and hasnt died on Saryrn.

I have heard our raid leader, on more than one occassions, say, "Great job on [farm-mob x] and [farm-mob y] !! We're gonna go hit [tough-mob z] next. But first, since we're near [big-mean-mob q] and he's up, let's go give him a shot. Now, we're gonna die a horrible death, but at least we'll get a quick look at him and at the script for when we are ready for him. So, let's go... and I'll see you in the GL in 2 minutes."

That is usually followed by a guild-wide cheer and a quick trip to bind. Never felt a hit to morale. In fact, it usually is a bit inspirational. /shrug. Maybe that is just us.

The hit or no-hit to morale has more to do with your expectations going in and the mindset of the guildmembers than the actual event.

When a RL tells you "Hey we may not be ready for this yet, but let's give it a go so we can learn what to expect" and you wipe in 2 minutes, it is a lot different than when they allow you to think that you are "supposed to" be able to beat it and get your collective asses handed to you.

Maybe it's just us, but we would rather try stuff and die learning than bypass it or wait until it is trivial to save the possible morale problems stemming from wipes. Maybe we just like the guild lobby that much.

Haven't actually really tried him but everything I've been able to gather about the fight says there's alot going on, alot that can go wrong and a long time for it to go wrong which all mean even when you know what your doing it's still a very hard and long fight. First time my guild got to him we all attacked him just for fun and got him to 99% and just rezed in guild lobby. We haven't touched him since. The only thing on him that would make him close to worth doing is the bp drops. Even then it's mainly for the clickies on the bps.

OMM hasn't been beat on Stromm either. We have 4 guilds that have beat Vishimtar and 3 of those have also beat Draygun. All 4 of those and an additional 2 have beat AMV. Most, if not all, of those 6 took on OMM immediately after beating AMV and one of the last ones to do so reported getting OMM down to 96% before wiping (and it was fantastic for their morale!)

they nerfed it, and made it harder from 12-36 ? eh? wasnt it 54 originally? and you couldnt make it go to the ones you wanted, so everyone had to have a mask?

Gale of Destruction took down OMM early on the morning of November 4, 2006. As far as we know, that was the server's first kill. Whooooo!!!
