Shielding Vs. AC?

Postby Saeel » Fri Apr 25, 2008 6:50 pm

Ran upon a conflict that I'm not sure of the better choice between, last night, in my unending jaunt to acquire some augs that do not entirely stink. Could use some help resolving...

Currently my aug in most need of replacement would be a 10 AC, 30 HP one from I believe Nadox. Last night I picked up a 1% Shielding, 15 HP/Mana/End aug and am unsure just how worthwhile that 1 shielding is versus 10 AC.

For what balance it may hold in the comparison of the two stats, my unbuffed AC is 2953, and worn shielding is 12%.
Don't bother looking at the magelo, its out of date something horrid...

you can hit 5k ac with specialty low ac high hp high mod augs given the right base gear. with that said you need to look at your gear, decide if its the gear that you would expect from the content youre tackling. is it overpowered, is it weak. if you have weak gear, you probably need to beef up the ac to get the significant gain of sending the average hit to the lower spectrum of damage intervals. if you have gear way beyond or about on par with what youre fighting you can relax on the ac and focus on the many other things augs can add.

Er ah, thanks for the advice. Really what I'm looking for is any sort of baseline/guideline to go by to decide on the worth of x amount of Shielding compared to x amount of AC.

Has such a thing ever even been worked out to any degree, would be my next question.

Honestly, I value avoidance over shielding. it is better to be totally missed than, midigate a marginal bit of damage.

avoidance is good yes. in theory it "sounds" better but my philosophy is it all helps and coupled with the fact that im also max on both it doesn't really present itself as a problem any more. but as i was gearing up, i would take every upgrade i could get, and eventually working that way, continuing to choose gear pieces that increase your overall mods and stats you will eventually build to a full house setup

i won't knock your philosophy, but i won't agree either. original poster, perhaps you can see the problem with asking such a question heh :). if you aren't sure what each ability does, we can describe them to you. as for priority, we can share you ours, but i suggest looking at their effects and prioritizing them yourself as to your liking.

Shielding does very little for you unless you're getting hit on the lower spectrum more often than not (i.e. you have high AC). But as it is, I'd say 1% shielding is worth more than 10ac to you.

Yeah, my playstyle simply won't allow for maxing shielding in the foreseeable future, which is why I just wanted the opinions on its value in comparative situations like with the two augs mentioned in the original post. My aim is just to get the most that I can out of what I have access to. Thanks for the shared thoughts and advice.
