shielding?
avoidance?
mana regen?
regen?
spell shield?
stun resist?
dot shield?
etc?
also somewhat related at what point does ac stop making a difference? is there a point when hp become more valuable than ac? i am wondering would it be more valuable to replace a 25 or 30 ac aug with a 110 hp and a couple effects aug?

Brogh,
Softcaps differ from class to class, and increase with AA.
3kish is the softcap I have heard for warriors and knights with all AA.
1300 may be the shaman softcap though I suspect without all AA.
And even after the softcap is reached, warriors and knights DO get signifigant advantages from more AC.

I am pretty sure the softcap is around 1300 for all classes. Certainly it is my experience that you gain as much advantage going from 3.5k ac to 4k ac as you do going from 2.5k to 3k, in appropriate content.
As an example of what Brohg said above, take older content such as rss, then going much over 3.2k will yield only small gains in tankability but in places like Ahengate and Frostcrypt the gains are linear and you will see no diminishing returns going well past 4k. I am sure there is a point where you will but I doubt that anyone has yet reached that level of ac.

The shm softcap with no AA is 1100, to be a bit more precise. The paladin softcap is likely 1250ish with no AA, though I'm not 100% on it. 1250 is the warrior softcap with no AA, that I'm sure of. Being plate tanks, paladins may be the same. AAs do obviously boost that softcap, but by dozens, not 100s, and certainly not 1000s. I used the number 1300 for the symmetry with 3100.
