how exactly does shroud exp work now?

i never messed with shrouds when DoD came out, but i heard they've gone through some changes, so i'm not sure what information is accurate and what isn't, especially if there have been recent changes.

i have a level 58 sk on my second account. i shrouded him down to lvl 5 and pled him in the warrens to about 50% shroud progression, which is quite a bit of killing. unshrouded, and there was no noticable exp change on the sk.

then i did the same thing with a lvl 5 druid. the druid gained 3 levels, although the ammount of mobs killed would have probably resulted in a gain of at least 5 or 6 levels regularly, at least if they scaled up a level with each level gain.

so, i am a bit confused. my best guess is that you gain more experience the lower the level your unshrouded character is in relation to the mobs you are killing. is this correct? and if so, is it detrimental to unshroud before accumulating enough experience to level up to a multiple of 5? by that i mean, if i am level 5 unshrouded, will my experienced be applied to a level 5 character until the point at which i unshroud, or will that all be figured in sequentially when i unshroud anyway, resulting in no difference?

IIRC you get xp per kill, but you only get the amount of xp a mob is worth.

For example
At lvl 5 you need to get 100 xp points to get to lvl 6
At lvl 58 you need 10000 xp points to get to lvl 59
You kill a lvl 5 mob that gives 10 xp points
At lvl this is a 10% gain in xp.
At lvl 58 this would normally give you no xp (lvl difference too great) Shrouded to lvl 5 this will give you 10 xp points.
10 xp on 10000 xp will yield in a 0.1% xp increase

I am not sure if a mob gives a default amount of xp or if there is some formula that also checks against lvl of the player.

The patch was to fix the "feature" of shrouding down to get AA experience.

Pre-Patch (but after the TSS patch that changed the AA/con system):

I could shround my level 60 ranger to a level 5 warrior mob. With my cleric in tow, I set my ranger to 100% AA, selected a level 5 warrior shroud, buffed up, grabbed some DS potions, and headed to Kurns. In an hour, I gained about 1/2 AA for killing 1 to 2 mobs at a time and moving on. Not great AA return, but considering it was ZERO RISK, it wasn't too bad.

Along came four of my friends in similar shrouds. We slaughtered the entire zone. In the next hour we gained 5 AA each. More mobs and the group bonus accounted for the additional AA rate. Once again ZERO RISK for 5 AA.

The patch was a good change. I gained a total of 6 AA using this method, so I didn't "abuse" is, but I did gain from it.

Post Patch

Shrouding down will now give you negibile experience returns. I mean going from level 70 character to a level 10 shroud. If you shroud to a level 70 shroud, you'll still get the same exp return that you were getting as a level 70 cahracter.

Before the AA/shroud feature, if you shrouded down while set to regular experience, you barely noticed an experience gain. The same applies to AA now.

Good Uses for Shroud Now??

1. The age old comment of grouping with friends that are lower level. Personally, I found it easier to level up another toon to group with my friends of lower level instead of using a shroud. Shrouds suck in higher levels.

2. If you need a rogue. Shrouding to a rogue to pick locks in Chardok, OS and Ssra is what many people use the shrouds for. Can you still die as the shroud, remove the shroud and be rezzed back to the zone (behind the locked door) as you PC?

3. Powerleveling those weak INT casters. At a certain point in PL'ing an INT caster, the mobs start hitting the little cloth wearing wusses a little to hard. Just shroud to a warrior/berserker as close to the caster's level as possible. It makes PL'ing more efficient and the experience gain per mob is nearly the same.

Yeah, you can shroud to the rogue, open the door, die, unshroud, get rez back. Very usefull for getting peeps to an ongoing raid too if they're directionally challenged and are good at wandering into packs of mobs. Rogue shroud up, sneak/hide to raid, die, rez, good to go.

One other rather good use for them is the Evil Eye (Aberrations) that get a very decent (but short duration) charm spell. Easy to charm the Undead Foreman in OT for the hammer. A few old world quests can be done by charming the npc.
Or do other class epics in shroud form whilst bored.
