Answers on cures:
The best way to find out what type of DoT you have on you is to look the name up on Lucy. That will tell you what type it is and how many counters it has. Other than that, you can go by the graphic on the debuff icon to an extent - a poison one may look like a shaman poison DoT, for example.
Counters: A DoT or slow may have counters, but not always. There are different types, poison, disease, curse. Each cure lowers the number of counters on the person cured. If they have more than one DoT, it lowers the counters on the first one.
For example, say someone had on them. Lucy says that has 9 poison counters.
If you cast to cure them, it removes 4 counters each cast. So the first cast will remove 4, leaving 5. The second cast will remove another 4, leaving 1. The third cast will cure it.
If the spell doesn't have any counters, then you need a spell to remove detrimental effects. Shamans have Pure Spirit, and the Radiant Cure line. Pure Spirit is a 69 spell and has an irritating recast. Radiant Cure is an AA ability, starting at 2 points for RC1. Subsequent levels, and the AA to speed the recast can eat up more AA, but level 1 is well worth getting. Note, in Lucy this will say Remove Detrimental (1) - this means it has 1 chance to remove a detrimental effect. Pure Spirit and RC3 is Remove Detrimental (6) - this means it has 6 chances - but it's never guaranteed.
If a DoT or debuff has counters, it can only be cured with the appropriate cure type. You will get a message, "Your target has been cured" if successful. If you have a remove detrimental type cure, you won't get the message, so you won't necessarily know it's cured unless the person tells you.
Check your cures. I would recommend for you to have:
Abolish Disease (single target: removes 36 disease counters)
Disinfecting Aura (single target: removes 20 disease, 20 poison counters)
Blood of Nadox (group: removes 18 disease, 18 poison counters)
Remove Greater Curse (single target: removes 45 curse counters)
Radiant Cure 1 (group: AA removes 9 disease, 9 poison, 9 curse and the chance to remove a detrimental)
Remove Greater Curse and Blood of Nadox are essential for raiding. Also note: A group cure such as Radiant Cure of Blood of Nadox will only work on your existing group, regardless of who you have targetted. This is why it's helpful to have Disinfecting Aura as well as Blood of Nadox - Disinfecting Aura is single target and will work outside your group.
