So, if I understand this correctly, I need to PAY MORE for them to DO LESS.

since 99% of the players in EQ buy every expansion every time , its just a cleaver way to increase the price of the expansion by 10 bucks without really giving anything more than tocken war-pig mounts and 50% WR bags. alts might benifit, but most of them are up to date within a month or 2 per expansion. i guess folks who left EQ 2-3 expansions ago will benifit, and EQ will ring out $40 from them to play for a couple weeks until they are tired if their underpowered gear and spells they have (which results in crap-ass pick up groups)./rant off, sorry

Kunark - 26 Zones
Velious - 19 zones
Luclin - 28 Zones
PoP - 23 Zones
LoY - 5 Zones
LDoN - 5 Themes (several zones, but Cookie Cutter design)
GoD - 20 Zones (actual different maps, I did not count Ikkinz 7 times)
Omens - 17 Zones (different maps, 12 zones if you count Sewers, Hollows and Catacombs once each)
DoN - 9 Zones
DoD - 20~ rough guess of different maps
PoR 14~
TSS - 13
TBS - 8
SoF is 15
In terms of work, they are doing twice as many zones as the previous expansion, and more actual zone work then they've done since DoD in terms of different zone maps.

Is there any truth to the only 1 expansion per yeat rumor? Of so, perhaps that is why such an increase was made without lower options?

Not a rumor. There will only be one expansion per year, and atm looks like there may be levels with each one. I hope not, but we'll see.

every time they add levels they screw up the balance of older content more and more to the point where the game is becoming ridiculus

Don't forget it will now be easier to get into the game as all you need to do is buy the latest expansion and you got them all instead of waiting for the next compilation pack to come out or by the old one + latest expansion.

The problem with EQ is not if it has level capped gear or no level capped gear.
The problem is that they swapped philosophy midways.
Edit: Talking from a metagaming perspective, I would prefer if items were capped to skills instead of levels. But thats a whole other discussion

i think we'll see another game come up with challenging in depth gameplay as a MMO down the road; all these new companies are getting their feet wet and it's a very new industry hah but they're coming up with new features and ideas at a very rapid pace; fact is there are many aspects of online gaming still unexplored and i think things will only improve over time; while WoW may be selling units, alot of these players are new to the whole concept of MMO gaming hah; and eventually those that find they enjoy online gaming and want to play more, there will be a demand for a more variation in game design
