Theres new zones new armor new spells new AA's. Spend a little time on allahs or elsewhere seeing what new spells there are. Also the bazaar prices have changed quite a lot. But people always need shamans and although you wont be very familiar with the new stuff yet it wont be long until you are. Just tell them you are returning to eq and therefore dont know what a "steamcore imbedder is" yet. Ask lots of questions, look up some old friends.
Its pretty much the same eq but with level 80 and all that came with it, definately get the latest expansions, check out the latest jewelry and tradeskilling as theres some advances there as well. Theres hotzones where theres better exp bonus, a new card game to try when your bored or lfg, and lots of things have gotten easier. EQ is struggling to both attract new players and keep the veterans occupied. Theres some lower populations than in the old days so many zones are empty. But in a weird way that has sort of solidified the players and there seems to be a lot less blocking and such going on.
I too recently returned and found it quite fun all the newness to explore and quest and such. While opinions vary on the new expansion I find it has something for both the casual and hardcore gamer, both the soloists and the steady groups. Kiting or rooting or tanking. Lots of factions and lots of quests. Lots of raids and plenty of very hard content as well as some light blue soloable mobs with decent loot tables. Gotta have a good comp or you will lag in the new zones though.
Feel free to shoot me a tell in on 7th if you have any questions you cant seem to get answered and I'll try and help.
