I found this in an old Crucible post:

But I don't have it in my logs at all... and I have logs going back to September. =/

I don't have a log for it, but I have the Obulus Death Shroud and I see the message saying its using the effect. Maybe you have that option turned off?

[Sat Jan 07 09:27:23 2006] Your Wristguard of Chaotic Essence sparkles.

Hmm... perhaps I turned this off a while back, but newer gear doesn't pick up that setting? Going to experiment quickly...

[Sat Jan 07 11:57:05 2006] You fall into a state of stoicism.

Ding! That's it. I just toggled settings:

[Sat Jan 07 11:50:26 2006] Your Aegis of the Amber Moon shimmers briefly.
[Sat Jan 07 11:50:26 2006] You begin casting Ancient: Wilslik's Mending.
[Sat Jan 07 11:50:29 2006] Your Bloodlink Chestmail flickers with a pale light.
[Sat Jan 07 11:50:29 2006] Your Kanleku's Vambraces of Spirits feeds you with power.
[Sat Jan 07 11:50:29 2006] Your wounds heal.

So, show/hide focus setting does not carry foward to newly equipped gear.
