While there's no reason to suspect that the reduction in effectiveness would be compounded (instead of a straight, in this case, 3.5% per level overcap), it is never wrong to question methodology; we've believed incorrect information in the past.

If you really want to test this, remove any extra mana regen effects and go note mana costs. Mem Talisman of Wunshi, 2340 base mana cost. You can tribute MP4 and see how much it winds up costing.

Current theory predicts it will cost 2223 (10-1-1-1-1-1=5% savings).

However, if your other suggestion is true, it should wind up costing 2199 (10-1=9, 9-.9=8.1, 8.1-.81=7.29, 7.29-.729=6.561, 6.561-.6561=5.9049% savings).

The difference should be large enough to be noticable if you record mana cost a few times each (to average in or factor out innate mana regen).

A simpler method for testing it would probably be with spell haste. Detrimental rather than benificial. Can look and read the cast time from the ui and detrimental spell extension is random so benificial spell extension would be the only one that would work.

I used to go around correcting peoples speech and grammar usage until I had this Prof in college who said something that really struck home with me. "If you listen to people or read what someone has written and you are not being asked to critique or being paid to correct their work, yet you do it anyways, then you are just being an asshole."

When I make a mistake, it's because I'm wrong, as opposed to lazy or stupid. When I'm wrong, I appreciate correction; I enjoy being as close to right as I can be. I'll admit absolute hubris in thinking other people are the same way, but I choose to continue in that belief since I consider the alternative horrifying. It's pretty much an observable rule with me that the only people I don't correct are those that I don't consider to be in the range of "people" at all, being either super- or sub-types. Which category holds more members... well, is pretty obvious I think.
