I wouldn't want to play an enchanter on raids, for sure. Many events, they're a 3rd rate wizard with nothing much to do except tash, cripple and nuke. Then, on some events, they're busy mezzers. Occasionally they have events where they just have to keep some mobs locked down while other people do the fun stuff. Sisters event in Demiplane of Blood is very similar to the Rathe Council for that - guaranteed to put enchanters off, though at least it doesn't take as long!
Monk mezzing doesn't really fit with the game balance as it's been so far. But I don't think it's a bad thing in itself - a monk can hold one mob for a while, but it uses up a fair bit of endurance. It's a handy stop gap but doesn't in itself eliminate the need for an enchanter.
The main thing seems to be that heavy mezzing isn't needed any more. Single pulling groups are the most common way to go these days. I remember back in Kunark, the order of the day was pull multiples and mezz the extra. I grouped a few times with enchanters that would pull in Sebilis, or who would complain about single pulls. In a lot of places, enchanters were required - if the enchanter left, and you couldn't get another, the group broke up. Bards could handle a couple of adds, but weren't nearly as effective as an enchanter.
That style of playing just isn't common any more, so enchanters are left with their distinguishing ability of crowd control no longer really required.
However, I have still seen enchanters invited to groups who're looking for a slower. I don't think they're completely left out - just as we weren't completely left out in GoD. They have some nice abilities (mana flare is an interesting one), and can bring more to a group than people realise... but I agree they could use a little help right now.
