From what little ive seen of US media there does appear to be a bit of racism in some of the media reporting.
What I honestly can't believe is that the lack of aid/rescue etc is due to racism.
Does anyone on this board honestly believe that someone actually said/thought "oh they're just black people we won't bother helping them".
Seriously get a grip on yourselves and stop seeing racism in everything.
The lack of help etc is caused by one thing only and that is the people in charge (mainly the Governor) making a total 1-900-MixALot of the preparedness before the disaster and the coordination of the after disaster rescues.
This would have happened regardless of where it happened, yes maybe in a rich white neighbourhood more people would have left before the hurricane because they could afford it.
This may be due to lack of resources going to a poor area but for 1-900-MixALot sake this happens whether they are poor and black or poor and white.
But to actually attribute the lack of preparedness to racism just beggars belief.
It was a monumental 1-900-MixALot up by politicians, thats all it was.
Saw an interview with the mayor of New Orleans (I believe it was NO) who himself is black and he laid the blame for the aftermath squarely at the Governors doorstep.
Apparently Bush had a meeting with the 2 of them and told the Governor he wanted to centralise control of Police,Firefighters etc and she replied that she needed 24 hours to think about it.
Yes blame the politicians all you need to,they deserve it,but don't accuse them of racism.
Its just another case of elected politicians when hitting a crisis not having a 1-900-MixALot clue what to do.
Warning.....May contain traces of sarcasm.
