Proper Etiquette

Postby Funi » Wed Aug 06, 2008 10:04 am

I of course think I'm right but just curious what others think...

Last night I zoned into Blackburrow and while I was waiting on my group to zone in I killed the two mobs that guard the "zone in". Being a Ogre I don't care for craped spaces and all and also don't much care for KoS mobs to be so close while I might have my attention else where since I was alone and waiting for the group. You know, I might go get a drink or browse a site while waiting for them.

So anyway, while I was killing these two entrance mobs some one comes up to me and gives me a good bitching at for killing "his groups mobs". I was thinking to myself this guy must hate anyone that zones in. I personally don't like mobs sitting inches away from me unless they have my full attention. So, my question would be is it OK to expect anyone zoning in that might get aggro on mobs inches from the "zone in" to zone back out to preserve "your mob"? Or is it unreasonable to think you should be able to consistently kill mobs in that kinda position? The group was actually slightly around the corner so I never saw them till after I engaged.

Also, in that setting if you set up at the "zone in" should you be able to expect everyone in the zone to lay down and die every time something goes wrong even with the "zone in" sight because they might train the "zone in" group? Or as the group setup at the "zone in" do you accept the possibility that you might catch a train if you set up there?

In my world, you are fine killing those two. It is not the best thing in the world to do since you could invis to someplace a bit safer to await your group though. Just be aware that people are going absolutely INSANE in BB. To start with there are very few ideal "camps" to speak of. Mobs wander alot including a few named and people simply havent ever "camped" in BB for 6 or 7 YEARS so no one knows the proper camps. Also people havent mapped out all the named yet, or if they have it isnt universally known yet. The whole experience is a 1-900-MixALot to be sure since anyone 70+ can easily group there with insane loots dropping, everyone wants a piece. Players who are not very experienced or skilled are not setting the camps but people who just find a nice spot with lots of mobs and claim it as their camp.

I'm just glad that I got my full suit soloing while people were still trying to figure things out. The place I used to camp is now routinely pulled by other groups. I guess word finally got around my server that there was a named there. My normal strategy is to find any area large enough to give me a little room to maneuver and just start soloing. I cant solo named yet, although I get really close so I just want to smack some gnolls around for some loot for alts. I suggest for all shaman out there to attempt to solo in there if you can find an open area. It is much more entertaining than dealing with the n00bs who complain about the loot and proceed to cause massive trains.

On a side note, has anyone bothered to put named mobs on a map of any sort or are people keeping it a secret till the event is over?

Your concession that they actually WERE his mobs boggles me. If he hasn't pulled them, they're not his. Putting aside that there's no such thing as an official camp, it's not even an unofficial camp if he's not pulling the mobs as soon as they spawn.

I would say you were fine. I respect the concept of camps; I don't agree that whatever you feel like calling a camp is a camp, though. I think that there has to be some sort of recognizable criteria to make a camp a camp.

Is your group camping an area where a named can spawn? Fine -- its a camp.

Does the community generally agree its a camp? Fine -- its a camp.

I don't consider zone trash or entrance mobs to be a camp, though. I find it especially annoying when one group claims every mob of a certain type zone-wide (usually because they are hunting for quest drops).

I also have no problem with setting up my own camp in a large area if there is another group there but they can't possibly pull all of the mobs. An example of this would be something like the Ice wing of Crystallos. The squire room is a camp, but I would also consider the massive ice-drake room to be a camp. (Fortunately on Tunare that's an accepted camp anyway, but you get the idea.) If necessary, I would even consider camping the first room in ice.

Little confused on the overall matter. Being in pretty much the top guild on the server, my guess is you were camping BB to get loots to sell for plat, so you could do what with it? I do not judge this matter. However, chances are the guy was camping it either for the same reason or to actually use the gear... Again, I do not judge this matter.

So, the guy was an arse or a fool as previously stated, but you.. You were there for?

Or in the greater scheme of things, who cares?

Peace

Heh, would seem you have already judged the matter and if it's of importance I'll let you know why I was there:

1). I still enjoy the game and this zone is now a mystery again.
2). I've sold zero pieces of gear so far and in fact I've given every piece I've looted to those that aren't as fortunate.
3). I've used much of the gear I've looted to entice friends of mine to rejoin the game and I actually have much of a set for some one that I'd like to talk into starting the game for the very first time.

It's funny how a guild tag can grant certain attributes to a person. Again I haven't sold a single piece or even kept one for myself or for a twink of mine. However, I would like the 2hb weapon. I think it would be fun to use at times but I would gladly pass to anyone in the group that didn't already have a mana clicky.

Anyway, the post was because obviously most people including me are gonna think they are right but it's always good to get another perspective on things. I mean hey, if I'm wrong then I'm wrong and this was an easy way to find out.

Good luck Bigcat and enjoy the game :)

At the stage in the game that I quit, I prolly wouldn't have been provoked by that guy and train him lol. FD ring :)

Id have killed those 2 mobs, then another of 'his' then another and another until i felt quite happy that they are my mobs now =P

Well, really i wouldnt have cared, would just have moved on after id have looted the items from the corpses. Think everyone ks's in BB anyways, and/or trains so big whoop if you got 2 mobs that could have aggro'd you whilst waiting at zone in. i know ive done the same thing, but the group didnt care, so i think it was just an arse that was waiting for something to moan about.
