Cold Nuke Line

It is god awful. Low dps, high cast time is not a way I want to be spending my precious spell slots. The game is pushing us more towards our poison line anyway, why not just ditch the cold line to get more poison jazz.

Sting is very good for dps & efficiency, just like rains were. It's much better than they were due to usability, but has the same role. It definately belongs in any damage-oriented linup.

You heal and canni unless you're in content that the paladin could solo anyways.

If he's got the mana to burn, Sting's likely to be more dps than the next DoT down the list.

if you read my post again tugela, my "hypothetical" post had conditional details that you seemed to have missed: unfocused.

I KNOW there was math that was left out for variable foci. It was intentionally left out, because not everyone will have the same foci sets, however, everyone would have those spells. if you call leaving out unforseen details skewing the results, perhaps we should add in what kind of mobs we would be fighting, perhaps gelidrans in RSS? or Frost Giants? I was working with defined numbers with no variables. I believe I was clear when I stated: no crits, and unfocused.

Spells have to be balanced in their base forms. This is reiterated in every comparison thread here and on the eqlive boards. Items balance with items, aa with aa, spells with spells, and crossing those discussions leads to pretty stupid sidelines. Your "effects that allmost[sic] everyone has" phrase is extremely subjective, and I suspect mostly based on what you have, not any real demographic. Unfocussed spells are what everyone has, not any particular set of enhancements.

i agree brohg, however hadnt you been saying on the HoT focus thread that it would be better to lower HoTs so that you can have heal focus effect HoTs. That sounds like balancing spells and focus together.

Somehow I don't see them adjusting or getting rid of our cold nukes,
but I would really rather see Magic & Poison focuses on our TSS armor.
Put the ice focus on something Wiz/Mag/Dru usable, we don't want it.

Even if "the average shaman is far more likely to have [a cold focus] than a poison focus", it doesn't necessarily translate to the average shaman being more likely to have a cold focus than to not have a cold focus. I think it's more likely that the average shaman will have an improved damage focus than either a specialized cold or poison focus. But then again, that's just my opinion, with nothing but a gut-level feeling to back it up.

and if you assume that everyone has an ID focus....a universal 20% nuke focus....then the numbers universally increase by the same rate...*gasp*
